The Canal was inaugurated in August 1914. The ships are raised 26 mts. / 85 ft. above sea level by The Miraflores and Pedro Miguel Locks, that work as water elevators. The Canal operates with fresh water from Gatun Lake. In this partial transit through the Canal you will appreciate, Las Americas Bridge, the new Centennial Bridge over the Continental Divide, the Locks, and hear the complete history of this engineer wonder of the world. -- This tour is really a must.-- It operates only on Saturdays.
