VIAJES GLORIA MÉNDEZTRAIN RIDE / GATUN LOCKS AND PORTOBELLO TOURWe'll pick you up early in the morning at your hotel, to take you the train station, the train will depart at 7:15 a.m. to Colon City on the Atlantic side. This railroad was the first inter oceanic train of the world, it was built in 1850-1855. One of our bilingual guides will be waiting for you at Colon station to drive you to Gatun Locks, a set of 3 chambers that raise the ships on the transit through the Canal. After learning about the functioning of the Canal we'll drive to the picturesque town of Portobello, founded at a bay discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1502, you will walk through history visiting the San Geronimo Fort ruins (built at 1660's), The Royal Custom House now a museum; the famous San Felipe Church home of the famous Black Christ "El Nazareno" (built in the 1800's). We will have lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to Panama City with our guide. |
